Police Constable/Detective Constable - Covert Operatives

South East Covert Operations Unit (SECOU) , South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU)
Hampshire
N/A
Full Time
Permanent

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen within the South East CSE On Line Unit for police constables/detective constables who are UCOL (CII grandfather rights) trained or are willing to attend further developmental training. You will be UCA or UCF and have passed or have the ability to pass the College Of Policing Under Cover On Line course to conduct UCOL operations targeting on-line child sex abuse.

On-line child sexual abuse is a national threat and tackling the people that target children for sexual abuse requires the use of specialist officers to engage with them to make them more susceptible to the due process of law and protect and safeguard children. The safety, security and welfare surrounding such officers is a vital aspect of tackling such crime.

The role of an Under Cover ‘on line’ Operative is highly specialised and the successful applicant will be part of a small team forming part of a dedicated team tasked to confront this threat as a part of the SEROCU.

The unit will operate from discreet premises located in the Hampshire / Surrey area. However, they may be required to deploy anywhere in the South East Region. The successful applicant must be willing to travel and work away from their current force area if required to do so.

The successful applicant must be willing to be flexible around duty times. This role does require the post holder to travel throughout the UK and will include overnight stays.

The use of undercover officers to investigate and gather evidence of child sex abuse and safeguard children is a legitimate tactic which is being utilised with greater frequency. Strength of character, personal resilience and an ability to engage and relate to people are critical personal attributes required for this role. Successful completion of the College of Policing Cover Course is pivotal to securing permanent appointment to this position. A proven understanding of a range of covert tactics, specifically including undercover, is required, and experience in UCOL operations will be an obvious benefit.

You will have successfully completed a Foundation Undercover Officer Assessment Centre or Advanced Undercover Officer Assessment Centre and have passed or be willing to undertake and pass a College Of Policing Undercover Online Course. Or, you are Police Officer who has completed a College of Policing CII course and have ‘Grand Father Rights’ and experienced in role. The candidate must be willing to attend further developmental training. You will have previous experience of deployments of CII, Foundation or Advanced Undercover Officer in reactive and/or proactive investigations and display a sound awareness of evidence gathering techniques. Demonstrate an understanding that the Protection of Children is paramount.

You may be required to travel for business purposes on occasion and demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours. Therefore a full UK Driving Licence is considered essential. The role will require extensive driving of a variety of vehicles and will necessitate the post holder to undertake a driving assessment. You must also be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level. Successful applicants will be required to undergo psychological screening tests.
