Fixed Term

We welcome applications from substantive Detective Chief Inspectors and substantive Detective Inspectors supported for promotion.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new team within Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) supporting two Inquests.  In this role, you will network and engage with colleagues across a range of partners, both policing and external to achieve the aims of the Inquests.  The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to the directions from HM Coroners in relation to potentially two Coronial Investigations and any Public Enquiries.

To be successful in this role previous experience of managing investigations involving covert tactics is key, and it is therefore likely that you will have experience of working in Counter Terrorism Policing, Serious Organised Crime, and / or serious major crime.

We are committed to becoming the most diverse team in the South East and encourage interest and applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV) level.  Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals.  This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

How to apply

There are different application requirements for Substantive Officers and those Officers applying for Promotion. If you wish to apply you need to have support from Head of Command / Department. Hampshire officers need to complete an AD277 alongside their application via Hampshire HR.

All candidates should submit an online application (Apply button below).  You will be short listed against the Essential Criteria and should submit an online application form. Please upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent copy of your CPD record/Focus Feedback meeting) and a copy of your Training Record.

Please upload the Recommendation for Appointment Form (enclosed with the Job Advert) in the ‘Line Managers Approval Form’. Thames Valley Police (TVP) officers who have already passed the TVP Promotion process, can apply as a substantive candidate (above application requirements).

If you are applying on promotion you should also submit a ‘Why Me, Why Now’ letter which outlines your motivation and suitability for the role at this time. Your evidence should also demonstrate the relevant behaviours, skills, knowledge and experience in relation to your capability at this rank in accordance with the core competencies (CVF) Step up Criteria. The letter must be no more than two (2) sides of A4. The margins must not be modified from 2.54cm. All evidence outside the margins should be removed. You will also be required to upload your latest PDR (or if no PDR, a recent CPD record//Focus Feedback meeting) and the Police Officer Promotion Reference Form (Recommendation for Appointment form not required).

Kent Officers will need to inform HR Resource Planning at the earliest opportunity of intention to apply.   Every Officer application form must be signed by the Chief Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to HR Resource Planning no later than 5 working days prior to closing date unless exceptional circumstances apply. This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for the application to progress, which will be managed by HR Resource Planning.  These steps must be completed prior to submission application.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
