Applications are invited from substantive Detective Constables for the above role. The SEPPU assists the Local Police Areas within the South East covering TVP, Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex in the safeguarding of vulnerable people at the highest risk and cannot be safeguarded using traditional policing methods.

We are looking for enthusiastic officers who are seeking exciting, varied and challenging work in a department where flexibility, self-motivation and attention to detail are paramount.

Successful applicants will have the following responsibility:

  • To manage, monitor and evaluate the      threat to individuals on the Protected Persons Scheme, compile risk      assessments, make recommendations on protection methods and assess      protected persons.
  • To prepare comprehensive reports and      operational orders on protective measures.  To manage and update      records and prepare disclosure schedules for Court.
  • To develop and maintain productive      working relationships with key partners, outside agencies, internal      departments and senior investigating officers.
  • To provide advice and support to all      investigating officers, including delivery of briefings and updates to      local police areas, departments and training courses to maximise the      opportunities to assist investigations.
  • To prepare protected persons for court      appearances, ensuring necessary security measures are in place and risk      management plan in place to ensure the protection of the witness. 
  • To act as Disclosure Officer, prepare      disclosure schedules for court, liaising with investigators and      prosecution authorities to share information which may be vital to the      trial. 

Whilst the successful applicants will be posted to an office in the Solent area, this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

The post holder must be computer literate and have experience of compiling detailed reports and risk assessments.  The post holder should be able to demonstrate experience of managing individuals at risk and working within a confidential environment.  The post holder must have completed or must successfully complete the National Protected Person Course.  Knowledge of Criminal Procedure Investigation Act (CPIA) and Serious Organised Crime and Police Act sections 82 – 94 are desirable. Confidentiality is essential in this role as is flexibility in working hours.

 Successful candidates will be required to transfer to Thames Valley Police and maybe required to second to the National Crime Agency in the next 12 months.

You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. You must be prepared to be security cleared to an enhanced level.
