We welcome applications from substantive Detective Sergeants and Detective Constables seeking promotion to join our South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT).

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments and, together with the HMPPS, are required to identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders. In addition to working to identified national and regional priorities, PIO’s are the gateway between law enforcement and the prison service and will provide support, advice and expertise in relation to all prison related matters.

You will provide supervision guidance and leadership to Prison Intelligence Officers in respect of prison related activities in both the counter terrorism and organised crime arenas. You will ensure the professional and consistent management and control of all intelligence and information pertaining to prisons, providing quality assurance and ensuring adherence to national standards. You will supervise the development of intelligence to manage threat and risk within the south east establishments. Please refer to the Job Description (enclosed with the Job Advert) for further details.

CTP SE and SEROCU are committed to becoming the most diverse team in the South East. We encourage interest and applications from candidates of all backgrounds and particularly welcome applications from female and BAME (black, Asian and minority ethic) candidates to enable us to truly reflect the communities we serve.

Due to the role requirements, it is essential that the post holder be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV). Furthermore, due to the nature and sensitivity of work carried out we require that candidates not only hold this vetting level but that they also undertake additional security clearances which include additional nationality checks. This post is therefore restricted to UK nationals. This is line with government requirements, supported by Cabinet Office policy and Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), and is for the purpose of safeguarding national security, to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage.

This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include travel across the UK and is not limited to the south east. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.

All vacancies of Sergeant and above are advertised to substantive and on promotion applicants at the same time; there are different application requirements for Substantive Officers and those Officers applying for Promotion.
