Thames Valley Police (TVP) are looking to appoint a new Head of Forensic Services – this is a prominent role in a highly specialised area of policing.

Reporting into the force’s Head of Crime, you will be on the Crime Senior Management Team and have strategic responsibility for delivering a wide range of high-quality services including digital forensics, across all areas of investigation, maximising the use of forensic science in the detection and prevention of crime. Demands are wide-ranging, especially from specialised units such as PVP (Protection of Vulnerable People) and Major Crime.

You will manage all aspects of the Forensic Investigation Unit, ensuring the Force’s commitments and strategic plan are fully supported by the delivery of a high quality service, compliant with all forensic regulation requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring that the department’s legislative compliance and accreditation deadlines are met so that all outputs are both legal and valid for the criminal justice process.

You will have overall responsibility for the productivity of a large department of over 200 people; working through their line managers to ensure performance, training and development, wellbeing, health and safety and discipline are managed professionally.

The successful candidate will be largely autonomous and will be expected to make decisions on the operational, resourcing and financial commitments within the department. You will be a subject matter expert, continually looking to improve the service, ensuring it can meet the demands of the future by taking advantage of opportunities from national and regional partnership working and engagement, whilst also keeping up to date on scientific and technical development and innovation.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 22-30 days annual leave per annum pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, performance related pay increases, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
