Working as an integral part of a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff you will manage and progress the investigation of criminal offences and other incidents/enquiries, maintaining the confidence of victims and witnesses in order to deliver successful outcomes. Duties will include following up lines of enquiry and completing investigative actions, interviewing suspects in custody, taking statements from victims and witnesses and securing evidence and preparing case papers and accurate and timely prosecution files You will be required to attend court to give evidence. You will be required to work a flexible shift pattern including evenings and weekends.

 

Essentials:

 

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with a particular focus on listening and questioning skills. Able to engage effectively and demonstrate empathy with people from      diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, the ability to think logically and the ability to gather and record information effectively within set procedures, in an easily understood format and style.
  • Problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to effectively analyse information and assess risks in order to set priorities.
  • Experience of working within a team environment with demonstrable organisational and time management skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to work      effectively under pressure.
  • Good IT skills with the ability to learn and effectively utilise new systems in order to extract and analyse data and progress and record investigations.
  • Ability to undertake Physical Personal Safety Training in order to be able to work outside the police station environment interacting with suspects, victims and witnesses.
  • Must have capability to travel to different locations across a local police area or geographical hub and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.

 

Progression opportunities:

 

This role is available across Thames Valley Police in a range of operational units such as Local Police Areas (LPAs), Force Crime and Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) and in specialist departments, including ROCU and SECTU. Additionally, there will be opportunities to progress to PIP2 (Serious and Complex Crime) Investigator which requires a higher level of training and accreditation, or to more specialist Investigative Support roles such as Disclosure Officer, performing a vital function in specialist departments such as the Major Crime Unit (MCU).
