South and Vale Problem Solving Team
Oxford
As and when required
Volunteer

This is a fantastic opportunity for Volunteers to join Thames Valley Police Officers in supporting the Oxfordshire Junior Citizen Project. This is a multi-agency project bringing partner agencies and emergency services together to deliver safety education such as, Fire Safety, Road Safety, Water Safety, Rail Safety, Road Safety etc. to Year 6 Oxfordshire Primary School Children.

Volunteers will support the police in delivering the two police based scenarios which are ‘Basic Personal Protective Behaviour’ and ‘Basic Internet Safety’ to Year 6 primary school children. The scenarios are short 12 minute sessions to small groups of approximately 6 children which is repeated to 7 groups in the morning session and 7 groups in the afternoon session.

Volunteers should enjoy working with primary school children (aged 10 / 11 years) and have a basic knowledge of a computer keyboard or be happy to learn. Volunteers should also be comfortable in role playing to support the delivery of the scenarios, all training will be provided.

The Junior Citizen Project runs for approximately 13 weeks a year which is spread out across the school year and does not involve school holiday working. Volunteers will need to attend the Rewley Road Fire Station in Oxford from 09:00 – 14:30 hours from Mon to Fri on the relevant weeks.

Two volunteers are required each day but the anticipation is for three volunteers to be sought which would help share the load and cover any time off.

School staff and pupils provide extremely positive feedback on their time at the Junior Citizen Programme. As well as learning some vital life skills the pupils have a fantastic fun time. This is a great opportunity to join in the fun and help Thames Valley Police and The Junior Citizen Project continue to deliver this hugely important safety related information and education in a fabulously unique way.
