The South East Regional Cyber Crime Unit sets out to tackle both cyber-dependent crime and the most complex and serious cyber-enabled crime. The Unit is made up of the Cyber Pursue Team, Cyber Protect and Prevent capabilities and works alongside the Digital Forensics unit who perform specialist examinations for all regional units. The Cyber Pursue Team is a specialist team composed of both a Cyber Crime Investigation team and a Dark Web investigation capability and includes a mix of intelligence staff, investigators and technical staff. 

The Dark Web Unit investigate criminality conducted on the Dark Web with a focus on organised criminality involving Drugs, Firearms, Fraud and Computer Misuse Offending. In addition to leading their own investigations, the team use their specialist knowledge and skills to support and advise other investigative teams across SEROCU. The successful applicant will work alongside partner organisations on a daily basis including the US FBI, Homeland Security, Europol, Australian Federal Police and domestic partners including the National Crime Agency and GCHQ.

We are looking for applicants with a strong and proven investigation background, solid understanding of disclosure, and ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across the organisation and external partners.

Additionally it would be desirable for the applicant to possess

  • A background or experience in Financial Investigation
  • Technical skills or at least an interest in the digital world and willingness to learn digital and technical skills using the training that will be provided.
  • Experience of the use of covert tactics during investigations.

We welcome applicants from Police Constables for an exciting opportunity to join our South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU). 

We fully support agile working with many of our team working remotely (including prior to Covid-19 measures). This means that applicants are welcome from anywhere in the region and are free to predominantly work at local hubs near to their home, or at their home address if they prefer.

Full training will be given around computing and cybercrime, which can be started at a fairly basic level if required. A keen interest in learning and technology is essential.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Security is of paramount importance to us due to the nature of the role. You need to be a British National and resided in the UK for the past five years for Security Clearance (SC) and ten years for Developed Vetting (DV)  You will be required to successfully pass and maintain the relevant security clearance in order to perform the role.
