In this exciting role, you will work in direct support of mounted officers by providing assistance in the care of police horses, maintenance of stable facilities, driving horseboxes and ensuring adherence of current policies and procedures. You will be required to work a four-week shift pattern involving some weekends and public holidays. 

A good standard of education is required with achievement of BHS 2 in riding and stable management or equivalent. You will have experience in horse grooming with the ability to ride horses of different temperaments, sometimes schooling youngsters. The ability to present horses to a high standard is required together with being competent to clip and undertake a range of stable duties and be committed to the welfare of all horses. You must have the ability to work on your own initiative, maintain high standards and work as a team member whilst sometimes being under pressure. You will be capable of undertaking physically demanding work. Due to driving regulations and the transporting of live loads, individuals must not be less than 21 years of age. 

Candidates who are chosen for interview will be required to participate in an assessment day which will include riding.

Vetting.  All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
