Cybercrime Education and Partnership Coordinator (12 Month Secondment or Fixed Term Contract) (SEROCU)

Cyber Prevent and Protect Team
Whitchurch, moving to Near M4, Junction 12 (potential agile working)
TVP Broad Band 3H
£32,000 per annum
Full Time
Secondment/Fixed Term Contract

The SEROCU Cyber Prevent and Protect team are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead external engagement with education with the intent of increasing the delivery of Cyber Prevent and Cyber Protect activity within schools. This is a new role designed to gain engagement from schools and education settings to promote awareness and understanding of cyber offending and pathways into cybercrime. The successful candidate will have experience of working with the education sector as well as the ability to create and deliver a campaign to the sector in support of the Cyber Prevent and Protect strategic objectives.

Please note: No technical knowledge or experience in cybersecurity are required as full training will be given in these areas. The core skills required for this role relate to partnership working and engagement with education.

This is a Police Staff role with a 12 month Fixed-Term Contract. This may be extended in the future depending on the national funding situation for cybercrime policing.

The SEROCU Cyber Crime Unit sets out to tackle cyber-dependent crime and the most complex and serious cyber-enabled crime. The Unit is made up of the Cyber Pursue, Prevent and Protect capabilities. This role reports to the SEROCU Cyber Prevent & Protect Sergeant.

Full training will be given around computing and cybercrime, which can be started at a basic level as required. A keen interest in learning and development is necessary. Instructor-led training will be supported through the use of online learning.

Both the Cyber Prevent and Protect team work to deliver the UK’s National Cyber Security Strategy. Cyber Prevent – under the public programme name of Cyber Choices – aims to identify, deter and positively divert those who may have cyber skills but, for various reasons, are on the cusp of or committing cybercrime, as well as increasing knowledge of the Computer Misuse act and career opportunities in cyber security. The ethos is education and diversion over criminalisation where possible. Cyber Protect is about improving the defences and resilience to cyber-attack – something schools are sadly disproportionately a victim of.

The Cybercrime Education and Partnership Coordinator role will increase knowledge of the Cyber Prevent scheme within schools – in particular with senior leadership and safeguarding leads – with a view to growing the use of existing Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 Cyber Prevent lesson plans by teachers, as well as ensuring understanding of the referral pathway. Referrals from schools will be passed to the Cyber Prevent Police Officers for assessment and intervention. The role holder will also assist the Cyber Protect Officers in reaching school leaderships for them to deliver Cyber Protect education and exercises.

This role will involve a significant degree of independent working and decision making. The role holder will have a high level of autonomy to research, design and deliver programmes to schools/colleges under the oversight of the Cyber Prevent and Protect Sergeant. Creativity and innovation are essential.

The successful candidate will work across the South-East region and may be required to drive around the region to deliver engagements, therefore the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence. The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a significant switch in working and a large amount of engagement is currently delivered online via webinar and video-conferencing.

While the designated Police station for this role is Whitchurch Police Station in Hampshire, there is the opportunity for agile working. Please note – the designated station will change in the future (date unknown but anticipated mid 2022) to near Junction 12 of the M4.

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to deliver a 10 minute educational presentation to the panel on a topic of their choice. The presentation must have a clear teaching point. Further details will be provided to candidates who reach that stage.
