Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan force in England and Wales and has a substantial portfolio spread across the three counties of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The Force polices a wide variety of locations, including major towns and cities, such as Oxford, Reading and Milton Keynes, as well as extensive rural communities and a number of thriving market towns.

The Force has a substantial and diverse property portfolio of some 1.2 million sq. ft. comprising of a variety of property types, including residential accommodation, police stations, training facilities, motorway posts, radio masts and aerials, industrial/warehouse accommodation and various specialist facilities. The Property Services Department delivers a full range of professional estate services for the force’s large and diverse property portfolio, and to ensure the Department continues to deliver expert support to the force, an opportunity is now available for a Building Surveyor (Maintenance) to join the Maintenance Team based in modern business park offices in Kidlington, Oxford. 

In this role you will perform a wide range of functions including leading on a diverse programme of planned maintenance works, advising on reactive works, managing a range of planned preventative maintenance contracts and regular liaison with both contractors and locally based facilities staff to ensure the smooth delivery of all works. You will also have responsibilities for maintaining and ensuring the operational continuity of specific key facilities such as custody centres, or the force’s residential portfolio.

A recognised qualification in building construction or building maintenance is essential together with experience of managing projects and maintenance of occupied building structures. Knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to building and civil engineering works is required along with experience of working with consultants and managing contractors. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and being fully conversant with relevant health and safety legislation is also essential for this role. A full driving licence is essential as capability to travel across the Force is required in order to undertake assignments in a timely manner and work flexibly.
