Volunteer Cybercrime Assistant
The way cybercrime is committed and how offenders operate in this digital age represents an ever-growing threat to the public and UK businesses. Keeping pace with new technologies and ensuring police officers and staff have the knowledge, tools and support they need to do their jobs has never been more important or challenging.
The Cyber and Digital Specials and Volunteers (CDSV) project is part of the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) Cyber Crime Portfolio and funded by the Home Office Cyber Crime Policy Unit.
The principal aim of this project is to enhance and deliver new capabilities to bridge the gap between the Police and the ever-evolving cyber-criminal by recruiting skilled individuals to provide their expertise as Cyber Volunteers or Cyber Specials.
The CDSV project allows policing to draw on specialist skills and experience, from a vast array of backgrounds that it would not be able to recruit or retain within policing as paid employees.
This CDSV role is within the Cyber Protect and Cyber Prepare pillars of the National Cyber Strategy, which relates to increasing protection against the harm of crime. Protecting individuals, organisations and systems, making it harder for crime to occur and prepare for when crime occurs and mitigate the impact. Reduce the impact of criminality where it takes place

As a volunteer within the police service, you will be subjected to a level of police vetting. The level will be dependent upon the role and it’s access requirements. With the higher levels of vetting, applicants could be asked to provide details of family members, partner, partner’s parents and co-residents, as well as additional information regarding their own personal circumstances. This process is required to ensure that Thames Valley Police comply with the legislation of the Vetting Code of Practice.
Whilst we endeavour to complete all vetting within 30 working days of receipt of vetting forms, unfortunately this is not always the case due to operational demand and back-logs, and could take considerably longer.
If you have any concerns or queries regarding your application please do not hesitate to get in touch.
