Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan Force in England and Wales, covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire with an extensive network of roads and motorways.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Force Identification Unit, based at Maidenhead, but if needed, will be required to travel to any of the other office locations.

Identification Officers provide key evidence for investigations by conducting identification procedures in accordance with legislation and force policy. ID officers are responsible for fairly preparing, arranging, and conducting Video Identification Parades using specialist software, liaising with the investigator and solicitors, and ensuring that the needs of victims, witnesses and the investigation are all addressed. You will form part of a small team based across the force and when necessary will carry out ID captures and viewings at locations other than your base station, depending on operational demand. The team workload includes a mixture of pre-planned work and also reactive tasks in response to suspects in custody. Identification officers will need to prioritise workload and play a key role in some fast paced criminal investigations.

A good standard of education is required together with excellent literacy and numeracy skills. You will have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work under pressure and engage with people at all levels. Proven ability to prioritise, organise and manage your own time is essential. You will be IT literate and able to learn and use IT packages, including internal databases. Prior knowledge of identification procedures, or a willingness and ability to be trained in them, is essential. A full driving licence is considered essential as capability to travel across the Force is required in order to undertake assignments in a timely manner and work flexibly. The role will require some evening and weekend work as defined by the rota.

In return, you’ll be joining an organisation that truly values its people, reflected in our range of excellent benefits, positive culture and flexible working opportunities.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 24 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
