The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments.  Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

The successful candidate will be the point of contact between law enforcement and the prison service, providing support, advice and expertise. You will support the management of prisoners who present a risk to our national security, commit or facilitate organised crime. You will also effectively gather and develop intelligence from HMPPS and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime as well as sharing relevant intelligence with law enforcement and partner agencies.

You will support the management of risk in relation to offenders approaching their release dates through a structured multi-agency screening process. You will provide support and training to HMPPS in relation to intelligence and policing investigations. You will also support with CHIS recruitment in the prison estate, whilst supporting and managing covert tactics within the prison estate in line with the OPT requirements.

You are required to have completed the Working in Prisons National Course and National Prison Debriefing course, or be willing and able to undertake training. Additionally, you will have an up to date OST accreditation, as the role will undertake operational deployments.

Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC. In order to achieve this, you must have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
