Operation Verbasco is the national Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) response to the upcoming public inquiry dealing with the Novichok poisonings in Salisbury and Amesbury in 2018 that resulted in the death of Dawn Sturgess. This borderless team works across CTP from London and Thames Valley. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team working on something very different than day-to-day policing. We welcome applications for the role of Detective Sergeant within the Public Inquiry support team dealing with the death of Dawn Sturgess from Novichok exposure in Salisbury in 2018. You will be located within CTPSE / SO15, but have the opportunity to work within the wider team as part of the National Counter Terrorism Policing network.

In this role you will be responsible for undertaking proactive and reactive investigative activity in relation to counter terrorism and in support of Operation Verbasco.  This includes assisting in the preparation of material for review by the legal team and coroner, and coordinating the presentation of material to the Public Inquiry, Coroner and legal teams.

You should have experience a background and knowledge of police operations, and a proven knowledge of serious crime file preparation, disclosure and court processes.

In this role you will be required to be on a four week shift pattern which does include weekend working.

This is an excellent opportunity for PC’s with an investigative mind-set seeking a career as a DC as you will be encouraged to complete the NIE.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Security is of paramount importance to us due to the nature of the role. You need to be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past ten years.  Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.  You will be required to successfully pass and maintain the relevant security clearance in order to perform the role.

You can find more information about security vetting here.

This role is currently funded until July 2023, however there is potential that the funding will be extended.  At the end of the inquiry officers will be supported in identifying alternative opportunities in line with regional and force policies and procedures.
